J24 SAILING – THE BEST EVER!

• BEST OF ALL: the fleet now has a boat for anyone’s use, to inspire them to get their own J24. It’s kept at RNSYS and is available with very few strings attached. It’s a very good boat, even suitable for regattas.

The fleet in Atlantic Canada has virtually doubled in the past 4 years, with (I think) a total of 33, most of which race regularly. We have regattas throughout the summer in Halifax plus an annual 2 day regatta in Shediac that promises (yes, promises) good weather and excellent wind, Chester Race Week, and others that are not difficult to get to. Boats can be purchased for as little as $5000 for a fully functional boat complete with a trailer and motor. For anyone just starting out, the rest of the fleet will willingly lend a hand by giving you experienced crew for practices and Wednesday night races, as well as give you pointers on how to set up and maintain the boat. There is a lot to learn in sailing, but it’s easily done in the J24 fleet, where we have many world class sailors and many generous and thoughtful people. We’ve set a target of 50 boats within 2 years for our fleet, which means we’ll get over 30 at our best regattas. This is completely achievable, and it’s what keeps J24 fleet racing the best keelboat sailing in Atlantic Canada. So why wait? Get out and get yourself a boat this winter, while the prices are at rock bottom. Just ask any boat broker where to find one, and you’ll probably have 2 or 3 to choose from.
