About DYC
Dartmouth Yacht Club has seen tremendous growth in its yacht racing program, doubling participation in the past several years. To ensure our program continues to expand and improve we have established the following waypoints to maintain our course for continuous growth and improvement.
Encourage participation and promote excellence in sailing and sailboat racing.
Promote and ensure top-quality, fair, enjoyable and safe competition.
Encourage and promote yacht racing, and support other yacht clubs and related events.
Foster a learning environment for novice and experienced sailors by providing appropriate training and education.
Promote and foster a positive attitude and pride in the DYC Racing Program.
Club Racing
Our very popular, highly competitive Wednesday Night Race Series commences May 19th with four classes, A, B C and D. The year is divided into a spring, summer, and fall series. Each series is comprised of 7 or more races with one drop each. Participation has exploded over the past few years with as many as 45 yachts taking part. Prizes are awarded and food is available at the clubhouse each week.
Monday Night White Sail Fun Racing is a new series commencing May 30th to provide an opportunity for new sailors and those without a lot of crew to participate and learn the ropes and the rules in a relaxed environment.
Opening Regatta
This year our Opening Regatta will commence on June 11th with the following racing classes: Premier, A Class, B Class, C Class (non Spinnaker), J29, J24, Niagra and a Double Handed Class. We are pleased to offer free berths for visiting boat and promise great racing, good fun and food, and great weather.
Silver Sail
This event will be a 100 mile Ocean race. This year the race will be held on September 17th and will be open to boats that are in compliance with NSYA class rules.
The Bean Crock
The Bean Crock is a well-attended long-distance race from DYC to the Harbor Approaches and back. The distance makes the race challenging but easily completed in four to five hours. This year the race will be held on September 24 and will be open to Premier, A, B, and Non-Spinnaker classes.
